Picnics and Pinterest Fails

Our Living Room Picnic
You know the days when you finally get sick of the routine and want to do something different than you do everyday? This was one of those days. I was sick of the Weekday routine of getting up and ready, working, and then going home to cook dinner and go to bed. The only problem was what was I going to do?? Although the weather forecast said sunny skies earlier that day, the rain clouds were coming and the wind was picking up, so doing something outside was not the best idea.

Kaleb and I were planning on having a dinner picnic at the Temple, however, that wasn't looking like it was going to work. But being the ingenious man he is, my husband grabbed our picnic blanket from the car, helped me pack up the picnic food in the cooler and proceeded to simulate having a picnic in the park...in our living room. The food, although leftovers, was delicious and we enjoyed topping off the last of our Neapolitan cheesecake (which only lasted a whopping 4 days).

After eating and relaxing a little bit, we enjoyed reading a General Conference Talk from Sister Linda K. Burton (who actually is a family member of ours!) all about the blessings and roles of fatherhood and how women and men work together to build strong families. If you haven't read it, or want to reread it, do it! It is such a great message.

After dinner was all cleaned up and we moved the couches back, I decided to try my hand at one of those Pinterest recipes that I had been wanting to try: Soft Batch Dark Brown Sugar Coconut Oil Cookies. Obviously, when I bake these recipes I do not expect them to look as they do in the pictures with good lighting and undoubtedly several "not-so-good" batches baked beforehand. However, this was a definite fail. Haha. I consider myself to be a little more skilled with my baking, however these cookies screamed "mess" and "imperfection". The outsides of the cookies baked to a nice crisp while the middles remained doughy. Ugh. I was hoping to bring in a treat to work the next day for my co-workers, however, I will hold off on these cookies and bring in something that looks much more appetizing later...
