All About Mom

The day started before I really even woke up as my husband walked in with a tray of delicious food for us to enjoy together without even getting up out of bed!
Breakfast in Bed
Strawberry Roses!
It was such a good surprise (that I wasn't really even expecting) since I totally forgot that it was Mother's Day. But I would say that this very first Mother's Day was a success :)

Gift from Church
Unfortunately, I had difficulty sitting through all of the three hours of church since this baby's favorite spot to sit happens to cut off my air flow. After sacrament meeting I headed home and slept while Kaleb taught our very unruly Primary CTR 5 class. There are seven 5-year-olds in our class and they pack a fiery punch when all of them are present. Needless to say, we are always on our toes.

Anyway, Kaleb returned from church and presented me with a Mother's Day gift that the men at church made for the women: a nice journal and a dark chocolate dove bar (I'll give you one guess as to which part of that gift was my favorite part ;)

Although all of these nice Mother's Day surprises are so nice and really appreciated, I really think that the best part of the day was the skype call received from my younger brother. Currently serving as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Vancouver, Canada Mission, my brother is one of the largest examples to me even at his young age of 20. He always seems to have one of the best attitudes and the most positive outlooks on life, even when nothing is working out and everything seems to be falling through. He has demonstrated this ability throughout recent years and I have always envied a little at his patience to have this attitude.

Of course, Mother's Day is all about celebrating our moms and those who have taken the role of "mother" in our lives. So I just want to take a second and put my own mom in the spotlight. My mom is a very special person to me. I consider her to be one of my very best friends--someone who I can rely on to be honest with me and help me out in rough situations. I can really confide in her. My rants are welcomed and, along with some validation for my feelings, I am taught valuable lessons that I believe I could never learn anywhere else.
My mom is the example of service. I have seen her in roles that many other people don't see and, although it is very difficult for her sometimes, she always comes through for everyone. She notices the simple things, like sitting next to someone who is new at church and doesn't have anyone to sit next to. She does the big things too, like volunteering to plan and prepare parties and events while she still hold a full-time teaching job and takes care of the kids still at home.

My mom is a rock in my life--someone I can count on through the ups and the downs. She has been everything I have needed and even more. I am so grateful for my mom <3
